同學強明兄搬新居到Palos Verdes,十分滿意園景宅境,說是日日分分都是享受. 園中有三棵松樹,稍蹬樹幹即可遠眺海面.決定取名松園,並邀我贈送"墨寶".
思及同學溫文儒雅,學聞俱豐,加上夫人淑珠女士聰慧能幹,尤其理財持家更如神算諸葛,乃巧思沓至,值此中秋時節作出 "藏頭蘊名"的對聯如下:

園幽景淑珠閣渺
九月十一日受邀飲宴時,赫然看到此聯已然框好掛於廳上,可見頗受寵愛.我個人也相當得意於此小靈感. 當年王藍老先生贈畫給我時常說"秀才人情紙一張",沒想到十幾年後我也可用到這一句話,只是稍作修正為"秀才人情聯一對". 當晚,海鮮大晏酒足餐飽. 十時告別時已酒酣耳熱杯盤狼籍. 老友交情如斯,人生得過若此, 一大樂也!
其後,強明兄也同意其豪宅名為 "松園珠閣" (Pine Garden Pearl House).恭喜喬遷,老友!

Evolution of life
Time flies, things changes and sometimes life turns. This describes well what happens in this period of time of summer.
Cindy changed mind and postponed the wedding on Mid of July that caught all her loved ones off guard. Shock, anger and confusion stepped in first, and then after giving her concerns some fair consideration, I feel she has the right to make a decision for herself because everything about marriage is on hers to enjoy, suffer and burden. If she has concern about future potential conflict that her husband cannot handle well, it is all her right to put it off.
To me, all her loved ones and family are wonderful people, or honestly speaking elite level of people with great personality. Parents of both families have been eager for years to call each other "chin Chia" as great extended family. However, it is just a mystery of life that all good ingredients cannot necessarily make a good formula as desired. Simply put, there is a gap in our generations, and some people stick to the old one, some can float to mix with the new one. It is about value or concept, nothing about right or wrong, good or bad. All I can do to my daughter is respect her decision, and give her the support and blessing unconditionally. What I feel sorry for and care about most is my potential son-in-law. He is a good boy with love and with traditional sense of family obligation, but it is the two ingredients that is cooking him without knowing what to go for.
With this, I do not feel anything significant that would reduce my enjoyment of everyday life. What somebody said is quite true, imperfection makes a perfect life. You can't expect everything perfect in life anyway.

Brief reflections on my 60th year old birthday
With the great compilation of my older daughter Ruby I got a small booklet giving to the guests on the dinner party. I later sent some to close friends here and Taiwan too as a small token to better understand myself as a humble human being. As a farm boy all I have in my mind now is gratitude and appreciation toward the contention of my life so far. Though not with much wealth, I feel rich with all I got metaphysically.
農田泥中立雙足
土石路上奔前途
貴善友人來相護
方有今日小老夫
(I learnt to stand my feet from the mud in the field of rice,
And walk into my future from the road of rubble and dirt
Without all the good ingredients through my life,
and those big helps of good merits
I can’t be what I am today as a happy little old guy)
生身貴人是家父
赤貧不退催讀書
忠孝節義言身教
雖不識字好老師
(My first gratitude goes to my father who gave my life
In pure poverty he never get tired
of supporting me a good education in far sight
He sets for me a good type,
By being a man of principle for life.
Illiterate as he came out, he is also my mentor to live by.)
伴身貴人阮牽手
婚前財物一摩托
台美長路起伏多
結髮情人好輔佐
(My second gratitude goes to my wife
Who has been following me through my life.
When she married me, my only asset was
Just an auto-bike (moto-cycle).
With the long road from Taiwan to America for change of life,
We went through many challenges, low and high,
This partner from this fundamental marriage is
my best companion and assistant for my whole life)
人說兒女是債仇
我欠她們真不多
善解獨立不煩我
閑散農人也收割
(People always comment and sigh,
That children are their debt from previous life
Frankly, to me it doesn’t quite apply
Understanding and independent
They are not being much burden in my side
I feel like a loose farmer,
Who did a little but still have some good harvest at site.)
甲子走過路漸收
善人友朋是寄托
浮生若真是場夢
但求夢美尿不多
(After 60 years, my road ahead is poised to down size.
Good and honorable friends will be my future assets from hereby,
If life is really like a dream, as romantic people cite,
I just wish my dream sweet with not much piss to interrupt by.)
Yapp, at this age or over, many guests laugh with an agreeing grin after reading this part. Physical truth to human.Frequent visit to rest room at night breaks good dreams. ha ha.

early retiring lawyer with principle
On New Year eve, while we were gathering in the round table for the annual dinner, my brother-in-law Fong asked me to make a poem with calligraphy so he can frame it and presnt to his son on his 40 year old birthday. His son Henry has a doctor degree in Law,and practiced as lawyer for years before deciding to run an art gallery. His reason is that the law practice offered him no plesure in life because this profession blurs the clear line of justice. The real guilty person may get innocent verdict and the innocent may be indicted. All these stir up are the result from the variety of lawyers involved.
I accepted this assignment with pleasur because I do respect such high character with principle. I strongly feel the abundance and abuse of law from these law workers in the U.S. has cause the whole country to fall behind in productivity in every sector of profession. Just a handly example, the product csot from product liability, the expensive medical cost, the mountain high of papers to sign on any transaction like a house sale etc. are the result of those smart people creating all type of lawsuits on any reason, or even no reason. The self conflict of the over-protection of human right has led this countury into a one way street of abuse and waste. I firmly believe that the legal system is a cancer of this country.
The next day I came up with these words for this early retiring lawyer and art dealer. This is a way that I show respect to this gentleman of principle.

博士執律耀吾親
宏觀今世正邪混
毅投美壇求善真

my good vision is back with two crystal lens
For years I have to rely on my brother-in-law to watch where my golf ball lands in golf course. For years I have to rely on my wife to read the menu and order retaurant foods for me, (and pay all the bills of course). For years I have to look for glasses before entering to restroom every morning with the newspaper. It is no more, after a week's sacrifice through two surgeries in Whittier Hospital by Dr. Lo.
Tuesday my right eyes was treated with crystal implanted, and Wednesday, when the eye cover was removed, I suddenly found everything was so bright and so sharp with more details in sight! It was a pure delight, even though there are some nursing to be done right away for recovery. Friday I got the left eye done, and by Saturday I found both eyes in full new operation. The next thing I do is collecting all the reading glasses in the woven bag which was provided by the clinic for the big goggle and nursing instructions, and put them away!
These days I have to wear the big goggle in all outdoor activities. My neighbor Al Ortiz said I looked like Celebrity. That's amusing comment. Now besides the better vision, I can claim that I am richer with US$3000.00, which even robbers can't take away from me because it is inside my eyes!
What I am itching to do is going to golf course and see if I can catch the ball flying and landing, and show off my ability to hit the ball better! It is the real motive for my eagerness to take the surgery. I want to thank Dr. Lo to take extra surgery exceptional for me on Friday by offering him 8 words with my calligraphy. For days I have decided the 8 words will be:
名醫開球 眼高技優
I hope he catchws the double meaning of the ball, 球. It implies Eye ball and golf ball, of course. He is also a fervent golfer as he commented one time to me that he normally won't go too hard for birdie. He will rather putt it softer and get closer to hole to make a sure par. What a sure-win lover!

補記去年十一月回台偷閒首訪好友精心經營的民宿北門鳥事多, 看到成千上萬鳥兒飛翔,陣形變化多且迅速,又能不互相碰撞傷害,有感而作:
