early retiring lawyer with principle

On New Year eve, while we were gathering in the round table for the annual dinner, my brother-in-law Fong asked me to make a poem with calligraphy so he can frame it and presnt to his son on his 40 year old birthday. His son Henry has a doctor degree in Law,and practiced as lawyer for years before deciding to run an art gallery. His reason is that the law practice offered him no plesure in life because this profession blurs the clear line of justice. The real guilty person may get innocent verdict and the innocent may be indicted. All these stir up are the result from the variety of lawyers involved.

I accepted this assignment with pleasur because I do respect such high character with principle. I strongly feel the abundance and abuse of law from these law workers in the U.S. has cause the whole country to fall behind in productivity in every sector of profession. Just a handly example, the product csot from product liability, the expensive medical cost, the mountain high of papers to sign on any transaction like a house sale etc. are the result of those smart people creating all type of lawsuits on any reason, or even no reason. The self conflict of the over-protection of human right has led this countury into a one way street of abuse and waste. I firmly believe that the legal system is a cancer of this country.

The next day I came up with these words for this early retiring lawyer and art dealer. This is a way that I show respect to this gentleman of principle.

my good vision is back with two crystal lens

For years I have to rely on my brother-in-law to watch where my golf ball lands in golf course. For years I have to rely on my wife to read the menu and order retaurant foods for me, (and pay all the bills of course). For years I have to look for glasses before entering to restroom every morning with the newspaper. It is no more, after a week's sacrifice through two surgeries in Whittier Hospital by Dr. Lo.

Tuesday my right eyes was treated with crystal implanted, and Wednesday, when the eye cover was removed, I suddenly found everything was so bright and so sharp with more details in sight! It was a pure delight, even though there are some nursing to be done right away for recovery. Friday I got the left eye done, and by Saturday I found both eyes in full new operation. The next thing I do is collecting all the reading glasses in the woven bag which was provided by the clinic for the big goggle and nursing instructions, and put them away!

These days I have to wear the big goggle in all outdoor activities. My neighbor Al Ortiz said I looked like Celebrity. That's amusing comment. Now besides the better vision, I can claim that I am richer with US$3000.00, which even robbers can't take away from me because it is inside my eyes!

What I am itching to do is going to golf course and see if I can catch the ball flying and landing, and show off my ability to hit the ball better! It is the real motive for my eagerness to take the surgery. I want to thank Dr. Lo to take extra surgery exceptional for me on Friday by offering him 8 words with my calligraphy. For days I have decided the 8 words will be:

名醫開球 眼高技優

I hope he catchws the double meaning of the ball, 球. It implies Eye ball and golf ball, of course. He is also a fervent golfer as he commented one time to me that he normally won't go too hard for birdie. He will rather putt it softer and get closer to hole to make a sure par. What a sure-win lover!

This rodent is too expensive to me

An invading mouse is proved too destrurctive and expensive to me. Not only in money loss, it almsot put my pet Ginger as the victim....

That mouse was caught in Novemeber, but the problems was found in December when my two Lexus vehecles were found gas gauge not working. It bit the wire and cut off the connection between the sensor and the gas tank. It cost me almost a thousand dollar to fix the cars. Then we assume there are more rodent family left in the garage, so we bought traps and baits trying to "clean" the rest of mice. But we found no furhter trait of the rodents. However, my nightmare continues.

Today I found Ginger was playing with two empty and deformed plastic cases. Checking with wife Grace, she was shocked and predicted that Ginger will be dying soon because she ate two doses of baits. This happens after the janitors clean the room, and removed the fencing wall that Grace used to block the baits. I happen to let her inside garage because the heavy rain visited So Cal. Oh, my God, how can I imagine this active little thing dead shortly whose only short coming is the extreme desire to eat! I decided to take her to a vet store. Eventually, doctor said she might be dying in a week with internal bleeding if I didn't take her for treatment early enough. Thanks God, it may seems her life can abe saved, but I cannot take it for granted.

That night I asked our massager Mr. Dong to take the cage out with the mouse caught inside. I asked that when he was way outside, he took time to open the gate and let it go. I didn't know how he handled it eventually. But now, I may just ask him to just kill it as my revenge. It is too expensive an invader!

"一字千金"現代最新版

Recently, material price shoot up in an alarming ratefor some reason. Accordingly many Chinese vendors have been raising prices for new order. One of my vendors in Guandong raised 14% on our order abruptly. We protested with all the possible reasoning only to find no result. Then, with the last resort I had to do something special to catch their attention. I made a nice poem for the sales lady. Actually I have made some vague promise when we were in the dinner hosted by their company during Shanghai show last November. This poem starts with the name of the lady. Her Chinese name is 鈺璇. Since it is so cold everywhere in North hemisphere, everybody is looking for the warmth of Spring. I gave her this poem in this good timing:

鈺池飛荷春暖日

璇河涴梅花開時

The next day, we got a discount for 5% which is amount about US$1600 at saving. (Of course, it was authorized by her boss, but without her approach, it can't not be done) This means that 14 words are making money by $114+ each, which could convert into NT$3,600each word, that fit the Chinese idiom as 一字千金.

Of course, the lady is pretty and friendly that gives me enough inspiration (or willingness) for the complimentary words. Anyway, I am happy that my small wit start to bring me money. ha ha .

Life after the close risk that I could be dead

On a beautiful winter morning I walked down the slope from my home with my dog Ginger. I found a pile of black trash in the middle of the slope road. Since I had the habit to clear it away to keep our environment clean, I bent down to pick it up. But there are more than two items so I managed to take out my glove and put the trash into the plastic bag. In this about 3 more seconds, I just heard a car running down the slope. I know there is no time for me to escape while my head was down yet facing uproad. It is just a second before the car may crash into my head and I heard the sudden braking noise.

That is the noise that keep my life going intact. Without it, I could be a victim of accident, whether in perfect coma or simply pass away...I just feel I am through with a unexpected but ridiculous risk. If I was hit with bad luck by this reckless speeding driver in a private street, my life will be truncated. Should I thank the driver for successful braking, or blame him for driving fast? I don't recognize him and I didn't see him when he moved on and leave. That is no important to me, I feel. What is important is that I survive this risk and I am thankful for God. I have even more reasons to pay back the society with what I have right now.

Small performance in Taiwan

Early November 2009, I visited a good friend Robert's beach side village to watch thousands of migranting birds. In the evening, he invited his brother in law to demonstrate his calligraphy whle I also make a small performance. I feel good to see my experience accumuated with skill improving by seeing more talented people. This trip to Southern Taiwan was specially arranged in my busy trip itinerary, and I think it is well worth it, and I have to thank Robert for the arrangement .
This hobby of calligraphy will be my main way to fill (not kill, I think) time at night for the simple life pattern in the United States. I am glad I pick this rather than Majoon which requires more partners to play. All I need is just the brush pen, black inn, paper for tools, and a mood for doing so. The good part of it is that when I feel my product is good enough, I can show off and give friends as an elegant gift that virtually cost me nothing.
Contents of the writing material makes me to know more of the literal artist of anicent Chinese. This again is another touch of the rich culture of Chinese ancestors. I just feel I can be part of the cuture after all.
